Hair transplantation is to transfer hair follicles from one part of the body to another. Often with hair transplant, we understand hair restoration on the scalp. The body part from hair follicles can be taken are called the donor sites and the parts where they are transplanted are called recipient sites. A surgical treatment to treat baldness.

An important point to know is that only hair follicles that are resistant to balding can be sued for the surgery. The best thing about this is that hair restoration is the most encouraging and guaranteed solution for badness.

Types of hair transplantation

They are of three types, namely follicular unit strip method, scalp reduction, and follicular unit extraction. They have their pros and cons, and here we’ll see how they are different from each other and what they have to offer for the same purpose.

  • Follicular Unit Strip Method

This surgery method suits for a patient with more than average or extreme cases of balding. In this method, hair follicles are taken from the donor site one at a time and transplanted on the recipient areas. This happens to be quite a popular method of hair transplantation.

  • Follicular Unit Extraction Method

Another popular and also an advanced method for hair restoration. This technique follows the mechanism of the natural process of hair growth. Here, a surgeon takes hair follicle from the back of the scalp and transplant in a group of 1/4 and this is similar to the normal hair growth pattern. It requires no major cut or scarring and recovers sooner.

  • Scalp reduction

This is a very risky method of hair transplantation and is rarely used. The entire bald scalp has to be removed and replaced with a scalp rich with hair follicles. The risk lies in the fact that post-transplantation, there may be tightening of the scalp and this may cause thinning of hair within years. Also, this happens to be the most costly method of hair restoration.
